Notes on the Electronic Rubik's Cube ------------------------------------ Erno Rubik filed an application for the patent of an electronic Rubik's Cube on December 9th, 1986, which was issued on April 4th 1989. After reading the patent, which reads like a proposal to manufacture electronic Rubik's Cubes, it seems doubtful that any were actually made. The patent is an interesting document which talks about a built-in chronometer to measure the time it takes to solve a 3x3x3 cube, and also count the number of 1/4 turns the solver takes. Pictures show a cube skeleton very similar to the ones of a normal Rubik's Cube. One can readily imagine some sort of LCD display, and mention is also made of an LED, and a start button. How the device is powered is not mentioned.
